ARCH401 studio design (2019-2020)

Faculty of architecture and fine arts design in PaÅŸabahçe, Beykoz was a challenge for me in terms of interpreting public spaces while designing a university building which has a smaller range of user. When we went to analyze the site, I recognize that population of old people is dense and surrounding buildings designed as the discipline of civil architecture. So, the first idea about my project was to create common spaces for both age group and also in harmony with the rest of the buildings. Because the main road is not wide enough and site has not parking lots enough, traffic and carpark became an issue. Therefore, I designed multistorey carpark area under the site which is the top of it works as a public square. As inspirated by the isocurves and the shape of the road, I designed the building as a barrier between the sea and the land. Shape has a metaphoric meaning; it is a barrier which connects the two area by intertwining the topography. In the project, I tried to design lots of meeting points since I analyzed as a lack. I created inner square also for the students. Another issue was non-used pier. With my design, I created a marin, a walking path, a bicycle road and fishing areas to get the maximum efficiency from both water and the view. Lastly, the protection of green was crucial for me. Therefore, I designed a park and created lots of green areas to connect the design and also the site with the nearby forest.
